This is one of the GREATEST vehicles…ever! A 1997 California Tacoma SR5 V6 Xtra cab 4x4 that has been super reliable and Toyota TOUGH…for over 25 years! This is where “Scarlett’s” 4-sale story begins and why you need to save her.
My daughter was cruising on Hwy. 17 at about 60 mph when the left front axle failed! Causing a loss of steering control, Scarlett ‘kissed’ a concrete barrier with the left front corner at about 50, bounced across the empty lanes (thank God) and settled perfectly on the right, emergency berm. The impact triggered the airbag BUT, protected Scarlett’s precious cargo…my daughter. She only suffered a small scratch on her chin from getting “punched” by the airbag, but otherwise, was completely unscathed. One of the main reasons I had her driving the truck…cabin safety (thank God again)!
Since no other vehicles or people were involved and no major injuries to kiddo (keep thanking God), I had Scarlett towed home to inspect the front corner impact just in case. From my inspection, there is some frame damage to the front clip, so it’s too much for me to repair without the right equipment. However, I don’t see any mechanical leaks (YAY!) or apparent damage to the drivetrain (WHEW!). For now, finances dictate a not so preferred course of action, hence YOUR opportunity.
Scarlett has been in the family since 1997 with 5k miles put on the OD from the dealer. I’d fix it but lack of frame straightening tools and skills is YOUR gain because structurally and mechanically, Scarlett was driving like a dream. From my experience, the low mileage engine and recently serviced transmission are strong and solid.
Around 90k, I refreshed the suspension:
• front struts
• rear shocks
• upper and lower control arms
• upper and lower ball joints
• end links
• sway bar bushings
• brakes
• rotors
Engine work (at 110k) included:
• timing belt
• t-stat
• water pump
• pulleys
• belts
• upgraded to ALL aluminum radiator (which is bent but not leaking)
The transmission overhaul (at 125k) included:
• high-performance flywheel
• clutch pack
• pilot bearing
• rear main seal
Unfortunately for me, the incident erased all that hard work and goodness in the blink of an eye. Honestly, this truck was unusually well maintained. I literally had people making offers whenever I’d take her out. Actually, it was a little creepy when someone followed me from one town to another on Hwy. 9 just to make several offers at a stoplight…no, thank you. "Are you SURE?!?" LOL
Lots of quality work completed before the incident at 146321 miles. I should also mention that the interior is in VERY good condition. You now know why you want to adopt, repair and get her running again because she deserves to be rescued. Scarlett has a clean title (NOT salvage), is currently registered at the CADMV as non-operational and is waiting for you to rescue her today. I'm asking $7500/OBO, so feel free to contact me now...thank you.
