In the 1990s I owned a Tempest with a 6 cylinder engine. The engine blew a large hole in one of the cylinders. I found a 1964 or 1968 Chevrolet engine and transmission with 230 ci motor (It has been so long ago I cannot remember the exact year). The Chevy and Tempest motor mount location and transmission bolt pattern were compatible, so I installed the Chevy engine with the Tempest transmission. The transmission from the Chevy has been sitting under my house eave since about 1999. People more knowledgeable than me indicate this ST300 transmission was used with 6 cylinder GM engines for Chevy, Buick, Olds and Pontiac. The holes are from the factory and were apparently used for these air cooled transmissions.
