Grassroots organization forming to address the dangerous conditions that pedestrians are facing in San Francisco, a so-called "walkable" city where walking has become a life-threatening undertaking.
This organization needs people who can design a logo, do social media outreach, and are unafraid to get in the faces of those who have the power to make the current situation change.
A core behavior of 90% of drivers is rolling into pedestrians as they are crossing the street, with a front bumper just inches from the pedestrian's leg or torso. This is done to get the pedestrian to hurry up and cross so they can speed to the red light that awaits them at the next intersection.
The first campaign will be: "I am not a squirrel...don't roll into me."
Rolling into pedestrians is the 'gateway' behavior that gives drivers the sense that they have the upper hand and own the roads. This behavior needs to stop.
A PSA (public service announcement) campaign with an ad on every bus shelter, that says "SLOW THE F*CK DOWN" might also be effective.
Join me to discuss these ideas (and yours) with the goal of ending the dangerous conditions out there on the streets.
And don't get me started about scooters on the sidewalks or tell me about Walk SF. If they were truly effective, this would not be happening.
