Every year, thousands of adult shelter dogs are given a death sentence because demand for adult dog adoptions drop off a cliff. People will almost always choose to adopt a puppy over an adult.
We are trying to save some of those many unwanted dogs even though we know they will need more time to find a forever home. How many we save is directly determined by you. Unless a rescue has a large facility to keep and care for these shelter animals, the number of adult dogs that can be saved is decided by the number of people who will open their homes and foster one or two shelter dogs. We have a list of dogs we would like to rescue from these shelters but each has a deadline date by which they must be rescued or they will be euthanized. And when that date arrives for each dog, if they aren't rescued, it's over.
By committing to take in, and care for one or two dogs, you are literally stopping those dogs from being killed, and giving them a life they never understood was even possible.
Sure, fostering a dog can be inconvenient. Helping another in need almost always is. It can be a hassle! But imagine what it might feel like going to bed one night knowing you literally saved a life? Imagine what it would feel like to know that by fostering a dog, you not only save their life, you will also transform it, as well as the lives of those people who later adopt them. Because you gave them the chance to find each other, you will be responsible for all the joy and love they find by living together for all the many years they will share. Not a bad pay-off for dog-sitting, don't you think?
If you want the world to be a better place, then MAKE it a better place!
You don't have to fix everything that's wrong out there. Something as simple as fostering a dog, can literally bring more joy and love into the world than you ever thought possible. Find out!
