The front bar actually measures 50" and the rear bar measures 47" to get an attractive fit on the Golf - even though Thule recommends 53" for the Golf. So this size should fit most smaller cars.

You can buy a different fit kit for your car - it just changes the rubber pad and the clip.
Surfboard pads included - they still look good because our car is barely ever driven and sits in the garage.
