Cooler is two years old and new these are $488 ($450 cooler + $38 tax). This is this OG wheeled cooler that everyone has copied. Yes it has the bear approval thingie, and it keeps ice for days and days, and everyone reviews a Pelican when they do a cooler review, and you can look up all of that cooler stuff on-line.
Added bonus is that it comes with a custom sized seat that fits the lid perfectly. (Cushion custom made by Stitches & Stuff in Grand Junction CO.)
You need this cooler if:
1. The temperature in your car will exceed 90º and especially 100º over your camping trip.
2. You have to take a cooler full of beer/food/whatever any distance. Wait, you want to put that Yeti Tundra 75 on this one because it's too heavy to carry in? Sure, plunk it on top and it will wheel that too.
3. You don't want your cooler wheels to sink into the sand? (No problem, and yes you can put the other wheeled cooler on top of it too.)
4. You go to multiple vineyards, buy a couple of bottles of wine at each and don't want to be worried about them in the car while you are at your next vineyard(s).
5. You want to bring back 18 bottles of wine from vineyards and not have them lay on their side and rattle around the place while you are driving. (Unlike other coolers of similar size, wine bottles stand in this cooler.)
6. You actually need to drive an organ from Medford to SF for an urgent organ transplant (I didn't do that in mine but I know someone who has a job doing that and swears by this cooler).
7. You want simple to operate, silky smooth, never fail latches and not the rubber things you yank on to close other coolers. (I have one of those other coolers and although I love it, everytime I use those janky latches I wish every cooler had Pelican latches).
8. You go to Yosemite (or anywhere with bears).
9. You don't want to have your food sitting in ice water. This cooler takes restaurant pans (1/2 pan (any depth) and a 1/3 (up to 4"). 1/2 pans also fit lengthwise). (Aside: If you don't use restaurant pans in your –any brand– cooler you really should if you want to keep water out of your food.)
10. You want to have internal vertical walls.
11. You don't want a Yeti (I can sell you the cooler but perhaps you should talk to your shrink about that one).
Given all of that, why am I letting it go? I got a dometic fridge so I don't have the need for it anymore so I would like it to find a good home.
Notes:
1. The tether on the screw-in stopper broke (it always does, go research it) but the nice thing is that it is the same thread as a garden hose so replacements are $3. (I have a replacement.)
