Hey there! My name is Josh — I’m 33 and go by any/all pronouns. I’m seeking new housing to move into for November 1st onward. My rent & utilities budget is a hard max of $1000/month.
I’m a queer Filipino-Californian born and raised in the Monterey Bay, and I’ve been living in the greater Bay Area for 13 years. I’m a full-time counseling psychology student and a lifelong singer and musician. My hobbies and interests include avid filmgoing, discovering new music, enjoying live music, singing/playing music, karaoke, astrology, all things food, bicycling, painting, journaling, appreciating art, practicing meditation and yoga, going to weekly therapy, taking long walks, spending quality time in nature, and sunbathing at the beach or the park.
I’m looking to move into a new private room in a peaceful and harmonious sanctuary with fellow kind-hearted queer people of color. I want to bring a strong sense of harmony and balance to my living environment. I care about co-creating an atmosphere that considers everyone’s needs and encourages equitable participation in the household, which involves compassionately assertive communication. I'm naturally inclined to create a comfortable and welcoming living space for my roommates where everyone feels invited (but not obligated) to gather and to invite guests to enjoy the atmosphere.
I have 15 years of rental and communal living history under my belt, and I’m looking to rent for at least 1 year on a month-to-month agreement. I currently pay rent with the financial aid I receive from school and with assistance from my family, as I live with a chronically dysregulated nervous system (a condition more commonly known as Complex PTSD, which I seek to inform my fellow roommates about regarding how it colors the way I live) that affects my ability to hold down jobs consistently. That said, I plan to start pet-sitting part-time to supplement my income.
I’ve been a sober drinker for over 6 years, but I don’t mind if others drink as long as it's not a net negative for them. This goes for all substances. Hard drug usage of any kind is a dealbreaker. I prefer to live in a non-tobacco environment, but I am weed-friendly (although I rarely partake anymore). I maintain a regular therapeutic regimen with psilocybin, which, as someone 10 years into a healing/recovery process with Complex PTSD who's going into studying psychedelic therapy & research, I regard as medicine as opposed to a substance, and I prioritize practicing outside of the house as much as possible. I am happy to answer any questions regarding this matter.
I have a midnight bedtime and tend to get up between 8:00 and 9:00 AM. I don’t have any pets, but I love living with them. I care about doing my part to maintain a neat, clean, and tidy space, and I’d also be interested in inquiring about hiring an occasional cleaner. I plan to have a musical keyboard in my bedroom. I would be very curious to ask about housing it in a common living space, but in any case, I’m very considerate of noise levels and appropriate playing hours. I would encourage roommates to have people over if they respect the living environment. I’ve been having monthly movie nights with friends, and roommates would be welcome to join!
