*Two rooms available for $780/$833*
We want you to know we are looking for a new housemate in our community-oriented 4B/2.5Ba single family home, available starting November 1st. If you are interested in joining our house, read on to find out more about us/the space, reach out at alicia14749(AtGmailcom) with a little about you, and please feel free to share with anyone you think might be interested!
We are looking for 1 person to fill the main floor bedroom ($833). We are willing to consider a few month sublet!
Our house of the last two years has become a sweet place we call home. We have been intentional about our community in the past - sharing meals a few nights per week and regular cleaning/household responsibilities. We enjoy spending time together socially - hosting dinner parties, trips to the farmers markets, game nights, and trying new restaurants but we also value time apart. Some nights we’re sitting around the living room working on a crossword together and other nights we’re spending time in our rooms with doors closed. We feel pretty committed to ensuring that house expectations/dynamics feel good for new folks and are open to revisiting these topics with new housemates.
About us:
M (she/her, queer, 33F) values community, yummy food, quiet weekdays (bed by 11p, up by 7a), and activity-packed weekends (ideally outdoors with some exercise). She works full-time at a National Lab and is in-person 4-5 days a week. Her partner lives in San Francisco so she is there often on weekends, but sometimes her partner comes and stays in the East Bay for a few days at a time with her dog. M enjoys checking out new restaurants, flowers, making art, walking, feeding people, games/puzzles, watching movies/documentaries/TV, exercising.
E (she/her, queer, 29F) is nearing the final year of her PhD in physics at UC Berkeley. She loves cooking (especially for others), being active (running, cycling, basketball, frisbee), woodworking, and spending time with close friends. She works in her lab in person M-F and generally prefers lower key weekday evenings.
M and E are close friends who met each other living in this house and are excited about expanding our community to you! Our larger community includes significant others, friends, and families. We hope to cultivate community through organizing dinners, game nights, movie nights, and weekend adventures.
About our house:
We participate in weekly community dinners on Tuesday nights with a larger community. It is a great way to meet new people and make new friends!
In addition to Tuesday Dinner, we have 1-2 house dinners each week (usually on weeknights) and cook in pairs for the house 1x per week.
In general, alcohol and drug consumption is minimal (but present). Some of us enjoy an occasional beverage with dinner, and we like to serve cocktails, wine, and beer (as well as non-alcoholic beverages) at social gatherings.
Quiet hours on week nights are ~10:30pm-7:30am.
We are committed to creating a home that is anti-racist, lgbtq-inclusive, and mindful of our place in the environment and our community.
We have a shared cleaning schedule with the expectation that we each clean for 30-45 mins per week.
We don’t have any pets that live in the house, but occasionally dog-sit or have guests over with their dogs.
Layout
The main floor is up a flight of stairs (not accessible) and opens up to a foyer and a large living room. There are three bedrooms, 1.5 baths (0.5 bath in one of the bedrooms), a kitchen with a dining area, and a washer/dryer room. The downstairs (above ground) basement has a large storage area, a tool/bike storage room, garage, office, and bedroom with full bath. The downstairs is only accessible by going outside and back in through a different door off the back patio and the ceilings are a little on the shorter side. Maybe 7 feet tall? Our back patio has a picnic bench and a grill.
Location
We are located in the Sante Fe neighborhood of North Oakland. We are a south-facing, corner house and get tons of natural light. We are within a mile of Bushrod Park, Temescal, Berkeley Bowl, Whole Foods, the Claremont DMV Farmer’s Market, and lower College Ave. We are a 10-15 minute walk to Ashby or MacArthur BART stations and have easy access to the 580 and the 24, as well as the 12, 88, F, and 18 buses. There is plenty of free street parking with no hourly limits or parking permit required.
