Family & Child Empowerment Services (FACES) provides families who live and work in San Francisco with high-quality early childhood education and enrichment; job support, training, and placement; and comprehensive family support services and referrals. Position Summary
We are looking for a Program Evaluation Intern that is ready to gain hands-on experience, build skills, and make a real impact. The Program Evaluation Intern plays a crucial role in the ongoing evaluation and learning processes for FACES programs. Over the semester, the intern will gain knowledge of best practices in measurement tool design and data collection. The intern will work with the Evaluation and Learning Manager to engage stakeholders (FACES staff, families, and adults) in participatory processes to review measurement tools and begin data collection processes in preparation for summer analysis and reporting processes. As an integral part of our annual evaluation and learning cycle, these efforts will enable FACES to listen to the families and individuals we serve, and ensure we provide the highest quality support for all to live, grow, and thrive in San Francisco.
What You’ll Do
Participate in FACES’ annual evaluation and learning cycle through;
-Measurement Tool Design - Review, draft, and finalize data collection tools that accurately and appropriately measure 2025-26 program objectives. Seek and incorporate input from various stakeholders to ensure co-design.
-Data Collection - Support data collection processes such as the administration of surveys, facilitation of focus groups, organization of service data, and review of secondary data sources.
-Supportive Research and Literature Reviews - Conduct research on areas to inform and support our evaluation and learning process (such as best-practices of evaluation in 2Gen programming, valid indicators of social emotional learning in 0-5yr olds, existing measurement of post-secondary achievement and financial mobility, etc.)
-Data cleaning and management - Identify and correct problems across multiple data sources (which may include enrollment, participation, site visit, survey, and assessment data), in preparation for summer data analysis.
Uplift a culture of curiosity, learning, and growth through facilitation of participatory and anti-racist evaluation approaches.
Ensure tool design and data collection adhere to ethical standards, including privacy, confidentiality, and integrity of information.
Contribute creativity and experience to pilot and evolve new evaluation and learning processes.
Conduct site visits and program observations to build relationships with staff and an understanding of FACES services.
Additional learning responsibilities may include tasks in compliance, grant reporting or program support.
Commitment
-Interns will commit to work Monday, January 12th - Friday, May 1, 2025; 24 hours per week. (work schedule may be negotiated)
-This position is hybrid, with at least 1 day a week required at an office or location site in the Haight Ashbury, Hayes Valley, Visitacion Valley, or Bayview neighborhoods of San Francisco.
Qualifications
You have a solid mix of the following knowledge, ability, skills and experience:
-Completed coursework in social science research methods and basic statistics, or 1-2 years of equivalent work experience in related data analysis.
-Interest in working with data to inform the design of high-quality and impactful services to meet community needs.
-Familiar or interested in program evaluation and/or continuous quality improvement.
-Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and work collaboratively and independently.
-Biliterate (Spanish/English or Cantonese/English) highly desirable but not required.
-Demonstrate commitment to working with families and individuals in diverse communities.
-Ability to meet required state, federal, local, and CDC standards (including but not limited to fingerprint clearance, negative TB test, First Aid, CPR)
-A deep commitment to aligning all program practices to FACES values, especially around equity, inclusion, and belonging for all our stakeholders within the evaluation process
-Strong passion for and a desire to humbly reflect and grow in pursuit of our mission

What We Offer
-Hourly rate of $25.00
-FACES will work with the intern’s school/program to provide paperwork for course credit, service hours, or work study if available. A letter of recommendation will be provided upon request.
-FACES can work with the intern to accept matching funds or supplemental funding through education or workstudy agreements, with necessary paperwork provided from the intern's program.
-Partnership with skilled child development, family support, and workforce development staff to complete meaningful learning projects that will directly impact program goals, objectives, and methodologies.
-Experience managing and supporting evaluation processes, including data management, data analysis, interpretation, and dissemination.
-Relationships with committed nonprofit professionals and increased understanding of nonprofit roles and organizational culture
