Based in San Francisco's Tenderloin District, the Vietnamese Youth Development Center (VYDC) is a multi-service agency offering services in employment and leadership training, education support and advocacy as well as individual and family counseling for immigrant and low-income youth and their families. The Center's programs help to divert youth by providing constructive activities that impact their world, increase their individual and cultural pride as well as build community spirit. Founded over 41 years ago, VYDC serves over 500 young people and families of all background each year.
VYDC seeks a Vietnamese bilingual contractor to teach vocational English to adult Vietnamese community residents of San Francisco. The goal of the classes is to increase the client's vocational work skills and hire-ability for employment. Topic areas include, and are not limited to workplace reading, writing, communications and computer skills. The contractor will develop the class curriculum and teach classes for a minimum of 2 classes per week. This is a non-staff position and contractors will not receive company benefits. Contractors are responsible for reporting their taxes at the end of the calendar year.
Plan and facilitate classroom curriculum that meets the individual needs and development of students.
Guide the learning process in a culturally relevant and engaging environment towards the achievement of curriculum goals; establish clear objectives for all instructional units, projects, and lessons to communicate these goals and objectives to students.
Prepare appropriate, culturally relevant and engaging learning activities and strategies for students.
Communicate with students and staff regarding class-related information, updates, etc
Responsible for record keeping such as and not limited to, attendance, student's academic growth, pre, and post-tests, etc.
Evaluate each student's growth periodically and develop instructional plans for the future.
Ability to motivate students from a variety of cultural, educational, socioeconomic and language backgrounds.
Exceptional written communication skills: the ability to express complex ideas with clarity and precision in written documents.
Sensitivity to an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students including those with physical or learning disabilities.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Eagerness to learn new things and adapt to constantly changing circumstances.
Ability to handle multiple deadlines and tasks simultaneously.
Advanced problem-solving skills: tactfully address and resolve questions/concerns.
Current California Teaching Credential with English as Second Language subject area designation; additional subject area designations in English, Math, and Elementary & Secondary Basic Skills highly preferred but not required.
Bilingual/bicultural skills in Vietnamese.
Must clear background and TB.
