Sugi is a renowned Japanese brand you rarely see in the States. Truly high level boutique craftsmanship, perfect fret work, wood choices, balance, and sound.

All fo their basses are unique, but this one even more so, as generally they make 35 scale 5 strings and this one is 34. B string is great, tight sounding and clear.

It features a high grade quilted maple top with a light ash body. There's a maple accent between them as well. Neck is made of aqua timber maple, which is old growth wood that was submerged in the Great lakes for a century or more before being dried and used for building. This is Sugi's specialty. The Japanese seller said the position inlays were turquoise, but I think it may be died abalone, either way they look amazing and match the finish. Matching headstock, ebony pickup covers and knobs complete the look. And Sugi's famous bat inlay as well!

Gotoh res o lite tuners and Gotoh bridge (18mm). It's mixed hardware which is pretty cool, so chrome saddles with gold bridge, and chrome pegs with gold tuners. Nut width is 43mm so very comfortable neck. Bass weighs about 8.5 lbs (plus or minus .1 for bathroom scale) and balances great in the lap and on the strap.

It's a world class passive Jazz bass with the unique Sugi proprietary pickups. They are single coils but I get no noise from them. Sounds very throaty and natural, and really reacts to your playing dynamics

Action is low (1.5mm on B string), and could go even lower if you want. It's a very easy instrument to play.

These 34 scale NB5 are very rare, if you wanted to import a new one, it would cost 5k or up. A used one closer to 4k.

It's pretty mint, a very light scratch behind the bridge that I cant capture with photo is the only thing I see.

Comes with a very nice Sugi gig bag, super high quality.
