Floppy drive has been custom-upgraded to USB. The Roland DJ-70 is a digital sampling workstation designed for DJs and dance music production, featuring a 37-note velocity-sensitive keyboard, a Scratch Dial for simulating vinyl record scratching, and an 8-track RPS (Real-Time Phrase Sequencing) sequencer, with 24-voice polyphony and expandable memory up to 4 MB for stereo sampling at rates of 44.1 kHz or 22.05 kHz using 16-bit linear A/D and 20-bit linear D/A conversion. Released in 1992 by Roland Corporation and produced till 1995, this unit includes an upgraded USB drive replacing the 3.5-inch floppy disk for loading samples during playback, a large backlit LCD display for intuitive operation, and connectivity options such as MIDI in/out/thru and unbalanced line inputs/outputs, making it a pioneering tool for live performance and sample-based composition in the early 1990s electronic music scene. Notable for its front-panel controls like sample play pads, pitch/modulation joystick, and sensitivity adjustments, the DJ-70 emphasized portability and real-time manipulation, weighing 8.6 kg with dimensions of 780 x 330 x 126 mm, and consumed 24 W of power. The DJ 70 remains popular for its raw sampling engine akin to Roland's S-750 series and innovative scratch simulation capabilities.
