Enrollment in any state Bar (preferably California, but other bars are not precluded) – any jurisdiction.
Should be capable of complex immigration litigation: identifying complex questions of fact and law, conducting independent legal research, constructing issues for adjudication, drafting compelling arguments with cohesive, intelligent briefing skills.
Will be expected to attend court; attend Master Calendars, Individual Hearings, Oral Arguments in front of the BIA, District Courts, Circuit Courts, as well as before family probate court for SIJ cases. Appearances, both in-person and remote, as required.
Represent clients empathically. Understand their leaderships and human experience in a system as complex and life-altering as immigration laws. Ensure accurate and updated client communication; attend to their concerns and questions.
Training and transportation expense will be provided, including AILA membership, CLE support, and court enrollment, including district and circuit.
Experience: 2–5+ years of litigation experience, preferably in immigration law, humanitarian defense, and removal; experience as paralegal is counted.
Long-term employment commitments prioritized.
Hybrid Role. Flexible, but minimum of 3–4 days in office.
Writing Experience: Experience thoroughly researching and drafting complex motions. Knowledge of law presumed; pre-hearing statements and briefs.
Be responsible for all aspects of case work, including meetings with clients, reviewing packages meticulously, coordinating with team on legal strategy.
A Work Profile: Will include handling a spectrum of immigration cases, including but not limited to asylum, withholdings, CAT relief, bond, cancellation of removals, complex waivers, immigration issues, SIJ/VAWA, T visas, family-based applications, interviews for adjustments, naturalization applications, and issues.
Be updated as to the evolving immigration landscape and be apprised of various changes to current US immigration laws, practices, rules and regulations, and policies.
Work Collaboratively: Work with a team of highly skilled, passionated, and curiously minded fellow immigration attorneys, paralegals, and law assistance. Engage in office-room discussions and brainstorm creative legal arguments in a thoroughly enriching and enthusiastic environment.
Maintain organized case files; input case notes with diligence and care; take case information management, including tracking one's own case-load and case work.
Federal Litigation Opportunity: You will be provided the platform to also engage in zealous federal litigation work on novel questions of law, carriages of justice, and issues that directly and urgently affect lives and liberties of the immigration community.
Fluency, both spoken and written, in English required, along with compelling writing skills.
