Almond is building the physical interface for AI. Axol is a dual-arm robot designed for real-world deployment. We're looking for a VR Robot Operator to teleoperate Axol in VR and capture the demonstration data that teaches our robots how to work.
This role directly feeds the intelligence behind our robots. Every task you perform becomes training data — the cleaner and more consistent your demonstrations, the better Axol gets. You'll spend your day inside VR, driving the robot through real-world tasks and helping us build the dataset that makes autonomy possible.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Operate Axol in VR to perform a wide range of manipulation tasks: pick & place, assembly, cleaning, organizing, sorting, and more
- Collect high-quality, repeatable demonstration data across many task variations
- Follow data collection protocols and maintain consistency across sessions
- Reset workspaces, stage objects, and set up scenarios between takes
- Flag hardware issues, tracking glitches, or bad data during collection
- Work closely with engineers to improve teleop workflows, task design, and data quality
- Log sessions accurately and help keep the collection pipeline organized
- Recommend improvements to increase throughput and reduce wasted takes
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong hand-eye coordination and spatial/motor intuition
- Comfort operating in VR for extended periods (or eagerness to get comfortable fast)
- High attention to detail and consistency across repetitive tasks
- Patience and focus — you can do a task cleanly the 200th time as well as the 1st
- Ability to follow protocols precisely and troubleshoot when something's off
- Willingness to work onsite and move quickly in a fast-paced environment
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with VR systems, teleoperation, or motion-capture setups
- Background in gaming, simulation, robotics, or hands-on manipulation work
- Familiarity with data collection, labeling, or ML data pipelines
- Experience with assembly, warehouse, kitchen, or other manual task work
- Comfort with basic troubleshooting of hardware or software issues
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- High ownership: you care that the data is clean and the robot actually learns, not just that the session ran
- Consistency & speed: you can move fast while keeping every demonstration high quality
- Strong communication with engineers — surfacing issues early and clearly
- Excitement about teaching real robots to do real work
WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS
Robots learn from what they're shown. The demonstrations you collect are the foundation of Axol's skills — every task you teleoperate today is something the robot does on its own tomorrow.
