MAD magazine was started in 1952 and featured some of the best illustrators of the time. There you would find Will Elder, Wallace Wood, Mort Drucker, Jack Davis, etc., doing parodies of TV shows, popular movies. Nothing was sacred, no person or subject was safe. And their caricatures were spot on.
Don Martin gained fame as a cartooniest for the magazine. Antonio Phohias created Spy vs Spy, a strip that ran continuously for 20+ years.
The artistry in these pages is unmatched to this day, the sarcasm superb. Subject after subject got skewered. Anyone and anything was bait. Yet, as good, and clever as the artistry was, to write for the magazine you had to be equally gifted. These two volumes of MAD works are both in excellent condition, their jackets intact, pages perfect.
