Hi. I'm selling my vintage rare 1960s Japanese Traditional Handmade Red, Black, and Gold Lacquered Wicker 2-tier Wedding / Picnic basket. In excellent condition. WOW...This hand carved wood, hand lacquered, and hand woven wicker traditional wedding basket / storage box is a show stopper! These stunning pieces were traditional created as wedding gifts and usually were used to carry a bride's dowry when moving to her new husband's family home and/or to carry food to a wedding or other special events. This one in particular is quite elaborate with carved and gilded cinnabar lacquer panels, detailed woven wicker designs throughout, and gilded gold hand drawn motifs. The thick and ornate handle is fixed in place and decorated in black and red with gold gilt traditional bird and botanical motifs on the sides. The top lid can be removed completely to reveal an internal removable tray. Below the tray there is a wide open area for storage. The interior is all solid glossy black lacquer in coloring. It is a very evocative design and is bound to stand out and become a feature item and talking point. Not something you see very often and a highly ornate example with desirable lacquer panels exhibiting skilled craftsmanship.
