IN A NUTSHELL:
The General Manager assists the Director of Operations to ensure the overall performance of the Wise Sons Deli. Working closely with the Kitchen Manager or Kitchen Supervisor, our GM will manage the unit to deliver high-quality execution, meeting/exceeding all targeted PnL objectives, with a customer experience that fosters repeat visits. Taking a balanced approach, areas of focus include people, finances, and customer experience.
It is critical that the General Manager be a high-energy, high-performing, results-driven team member that strives to make Wise Sons a great place to work through effective leadership and an unwavering commitment to people development. This is a full-time salaried position, with benefits, that reports to the Director of Operations.
THE DETAILS:
Oversee day to day operations and manage all unit employees:
-- Maintain quality controls at every step - from prep to plate as well as in service from entry to exit
-- Interface with customers, working the floor as necessary
-- Create a warm, welcoming work environment and help cultivate company culture
-- Collaborate with the culinary team to ensure food quality, cleanliness, and consistency are maintained and safe food handling practices are followed
1. Ensure that every plate of food served is up to Wise Sons standards and speed of service is maintained
2. Ensure proper storage of all foodstuffs including proper cooling and holding temperatures, labeling and FIFO rotation
-- Monitor complaints and address concerns and feedback as necessary, respond to online review platforms
-- Assist in ensuring catering orders meet and exceed guest expectations through on-time fulfillment, working closely with the Catering team
-- Oversee cleanliness and organization of the restaurant utilizing open/close checklists to preserve the cleanliness of the unit including equipment maintenance and safety
-- Promote and train weekly specials and holiday menus
Financial management:
-- Help location to meet/exceed annual PnL objectives with a primary focus on top-line sales, productivity, and production management
-- As GM, work with the Kitchen Manager to maintain food and labor cost budgets, and order/inventory all products
-- Daily financial reporting, communications logs, and all HR related procedures
-- Payroll responsibilities, including timecard review, tip allocation
Team responsibilities:
-- Oversee all cafe FOH and BOH staffing, including but not limited to: scheduling and training of staff for efficient service; hiring, disciplining, and terminating employees while adhering to both Wise Sons policies and California labor law; monitoring and reporting staff breaks and hours
-- Assist in people development through goal setting, coaching, and feedback, working closely with the Director of Operations and VP, People:
-- Foster a positive, team-oriented environment
-- Assist in ensuring the training objectives are in place for all employees, working closely with the Director of Operations

-- A disciplined approach to priority setting with the ability to identify the root cause of opportunities and move quickly to improve performance
-- 2+ years of prior restaurant experience in managing and controlling PnL lines such as waste management, inventory, food cost, equipment cost and labor cost; multi-unit management experience preferred
-- Highly proficient in local and state Health Department sanitation/food safety codes & requirements.
-- Effective in dealing with internal and external customers, which requires high levels of patience, empathy and understanding
-- Flexible schedule, including weekend availability
-- Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
-- Manager’s Food Handler Certificate, or ability to obtain one

We provide competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base salary range for this role is $70k-$75k. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to performance, level of experience, skills, professional certifications, and specific location.
