Since 2004, ACRE Real School Lunch has been cooking everything from scratch using only the best ingredients. Each day we serve over 2,500 delicious organic meals. Job Purpose/Objective:
The prep cook prepares foods in the daily production of the Acre Real School Lunch Program under the direction of the chef. This position needs to have fast knife skills, a good understanding of food safety practices, and be willing to perform any task in the kitchen as needed. This position also works with head chef and dishwasher to keep the kitchen fully functioning and provide back up to the dishwasher during required daily breaks.

Status: Full time for school year (runs August-June)
Hours: All school days (Monday-Friday) 7:00am-3:00pm during the school year
Essential Job Functions:
• Cook foods for program under the direction of the chef according to our standards and specifications including cleanliness standards
• Keeping the workstation and kitchen equipment clean, organized and sanitized
• Perform a variety of prep and kitchen support tasks, including chopping, slicing, cooking and cleaning.
• Deliver service to the school community with grace and a sense of urgency
• Exhibit professionalism and courtesy in all interactions
Food
• Be willing to perform any kitchen task as needed
• Basic cooking and seasoning of food
• Communicate any inventory needs to the chef as they arise
Other Duties:
• Follow company guidelines when health inspections occur to ensure a positive and productive work environment during an inspection
• Participate in the annual review given by management
• Participate in 1 food safety training sessions per year given by management
• Other duties as assigned
Schedule, Working Conditions/Job Environment and Expectations:
• Full time for 10-10 1/2 months during the school year (mid-August through mid-June)
• All school days 7:00am - 3:00pm (Monday-Friday)
• General high volume kitchen equipment
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
• Must be able to perform repetitive tasks such as chopping, slicing, or assembling
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• Must be able to occasionally work overtime for catering events as needed
Requirements:
• Minimum 1 years professional cooking experience
• High School diploma required; college in culinary arts, food service, hospitality or related field preferred
• Quantity or production cooking experience preferred
• Ability to work calmly in a fast-paced work environment and maintain a professional atmosphere
• Ability to maintain company standards of cleanliness and sanitation in kitchen
• Professional appearance and conduct at all times
• CA Food Handlers Certificate
Other Requirements:
We partner with all of our schools with required finger printing, background checks, and any current and necessary vaccinations. Please let us know if you have questions.
Compensation and Schedule:
• Salary $22 - $26/ hour, depending on experience
• Full time for 10-10 1/2 months during the school year (mid-August through mid-June)
• All school days 7:00am - 3:00pm (Monday-Friday)
• Daily meals provided on site
