Syncopated Architecture is a woman-owned, full-service architecture firm based in the Bernal Heights/Mission District. We’re a small, creative team (4 people) working on everything from ADUs and multi-family housing to coffee shops, restaurants, and unique commercial spaces. Our goal? Deliver high-quality design while keeping work-life balance intact.
We run a very relaxed, but professional office. No need to dress up (usually). We have regular office lunches, fun outings, educational training opportunities, and a rule never to work with people we don’t like. We also offer a flex schedule, two remote workdays each week, and offer a competitive benefits package tailored to your specific needs. At Syncopated Architecture, we hold firm to a 40-hour work week without overtime. Our employees love working here and stay for years. The ones that leave or move away stay in touch, come back to visit us, and occasionally come back to work for us because we have such a great work environment.
About You:
You are a fun, but meticulous, detail-oriented “architect.” (License not required) You are a self-starter, with strong opinions about the practice of architecture who isn’t afraid to share them. You are naturally curious about all aspects of the profession and like to dig deep into the “why” as much as the “how” of building making.
Other qualifications required are as follows:
The ability to problem solve and figure out solutions to new issues
The ability to multi-task and work on a variety of things at once
Experience with San Francisco Building and Planning Departments
Bonus points if you’re a scrappy fighter willing to go to the mat with the plancheckers
STRONG AutoCAD skills
Sketchup skills are required
An understanding of the CBC
You must have a valid driver license, and clean driving record
Extra points for hand drawing skills
Must live in the Bay area and can commute to the office
Your tasks will include managing mid-size projects from start to finish, including the site measures, drafting, production of small plan sets, occasional 3d modeling for our residential projects, obtaining proposals from engineers, etc. Other tasks will likely include researching Planning requirements for various projects, doing over-the-counter permitting, and researching permit history for new projects.
Please submit a resume and brief description of your skills as they relate to the required qualifications via email. Also, please send your hourly rate requirements. PLEASE NO PHONE CALLS. MUST LIVE IN THE BAY AREA.
Not all the work is glamorous, but it’s all very important to us. Providing our clients with a quality service is one of our top priorities. We are VERY specific about how the drawings look and the level of detail must be of the highest caliber no matter how small the job.
