Thousand Architects is a small San Francisco architecture studio with a modern, practical approach to design. Our work includes single-family residences, multi-family housing, adaptive reuse, commercial projects, and industrial spaces throughout the Bay Area.
We are seeking an Intermediate Architectural Designer or Job Captain with 4+ years of professional experience who is passionate about thoughtful modern design and enjoys working in a collaborative, hands-on studio environment.
As a member of our small team, you will have direct involvement in projects from early design through permitting and construction, with opportunities for increasing responsibility and professional growth.
Responsibilities
Assist with conceptual design, planning studies, and project development
Prepare permit and construction documents in Revit
Coordinate with consultants, agencies, and contractors
Support project management and office administration
Participate in client meetings and project presentations
Assist with construction administration and field coordination
Contribute to design discussions, sketching, and technical problem-solving
Minimum Qualifications
Professional degree in Architecture
Minimum 4 years of experience in an architecture office
Strong Revit proficiency (PC platform)
Experience preparing permit and construction document sets
Familiarity with California building codes and permitting processes
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office
Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with multi-family housing projects
Construction administration experience
Experience with residential or commercial interior architecture and detailing
Architectural licensure or progress toward licensure
