I am moving and would like to find this Carrera a home.
Since it is a high-mileage driver, do not expect a showroom floor model or even a garage queen beauty. There is clearcoat oxidation as well as some sun fade, front bumper paint is spider webbing, some minor door dings, a little curb rash. But it does look great from 10ft with a wash/wax. It is a sexy triple black, exterior paint, leather, alcantara headliner, has a sunroof and the lighter S model wheels, six speed manual transmission.
The first owner commuted from Walnut Creek to Santa Barbara racking up 164,000mi on the odo.
I am the second owner (15 yrs). Before I bought the car, I called the dealership who sold it and did the services. The mechanic said he knew the car and that he would buy it. So I did before he could.
I have had some major things updated:clutch, belts, alternator, PSE Gundo hack (google it) plus the usual necessary brakes, tires, oil changes.
I have not done anything regarding the IMS/RMS.
I don't know if the first owner had anything done.
I do know those issues show up well before 240k.
Since my ownership, the car has been worked on only by 2 independent Porsche specialists (PROSHOP now closed since the owner passed away and Hi-Tec) both highly respected in the North Bay Area. I asked them about it, too. Neither recommended messing with what is obviously working.
No leaks. Started right up today and fell into a nice smooth idle. No sponginess in the brakes. 14 amps. all good.
What it could use now is a service, suspension bushings and engine mounts, maybe rear brake pads, a respray if you really want to go for it.
BUT!
I cannot provide a smog certificate.
The smog test showed the "Gas Cap" evap codes (PO451;PO455PO492) which means there is a leak in the vacuum evap system that allows too much air during startup for the regulator specs to pass the smog test. It does not affect the operation of the car one bit.
I spent about $2700 on a mechanic who meticulously searched front to back but couldn't find the leak. I have paid the registration but I cannot get tags to drive or even park it on the streets. I got frustrated. So, I have stored it in my garage on a battery tender since January of 2025.
If I lived in a "non-smog" county I would not be selling it.
If you live in a non-smog county you will have no problem registering it in your name and driving it.
OR
You "know a guy" or you know how to get this smogged then you can daily it in the Bay Area again.
OR
You would like a cheap track toy with good bones to hang your race parts on and won't feel bad about thrashing it. Maybe a 24hr Lemons contestant (is that still a thing)?
OR
you need a parts car. The parts value is worth way more than my asking price.
This will tick those boxes, too. Whatever, it will put a smile on your face for the price you will pay.
I may be open to a partial trades for certain motorcycles, sorry no dirt bikes or maybe a certified Rolex, Panerai or Bvlgari Octo Finissimo!
Thanks for reading this and would welcome constructive feedback.
