Gemmiti Model Art is Seeking a Protégé in Professional Model Making —An Apprenticeship Opportunity

Are you someone who loves to design and build just about anything? Do you have a natural curiosity, an eye for detail, and a deep desire to create? If so, this might be a rare opportunity to turn your passion into a career.

We are a high-end model-making studio based in San Francisco, specializing in architectural, engineering, litigation, technology, product design, and props — with a strong emphasis on the art of model making. Our work is precise, creative, and highly technical. There are very few professional studios like ours left in the U.S.

We are looking for a unique individual (or two) to become a protégé, learning the trade through hands-on experience and guided mentorship. The goal is to grow into a professional model maker, then a model designer, and grow even more from there.

This is an opportunity to learn a life-long vocation; it is not a job posting — and not for the faint of heart or those who get bored easily.

MODEL MAKING REQUIRES:

- Focus and patience
- Excellent hand skills and craftsmanship
- Artistic talent, including color sense and painting skills (spray painting and precision hand-painting)
- Digital design skills (Rhino 3D)
- Sincere interest in design, in materials, in tools, and in the aesthetics of professional presentation
- CNC machining (RhinoCAM), laser cutting, 3D printing, woodworking
- and learning the many different processes used in model making

WHAT WE OFFER:

- Mentorship and training from a master model maker with 45+ years of experience
- A professional, highly creative environment
- Exposure to cutting-edge architecture, engineering, and design projects
- Hands-on learning in design, fabrication, painting, finishing, and project management

COMPENSATION:

This is an apprenticeship opportunity. If you have no prior experience, we will not charge you for training — but we also cannot pay you for learning. As your skills improve and your contributions grow, compensation will follow. If you already have experience, we are happy to pay for what you produce that is billable.
