Boat Cleats for Montauk
I noticed that all the older Boston Whalers are lacking a certain feature that most other boats have.
They do not have a tie down cheats.
Older Montauks have an inside and outside hull with a foam core between them.
This prevents the use of bolts or screws to attach docking cleats as the fiberglass will not withstand the forces of screws or bolts without causing damage.
Made from 304 stainless steel, and electro polished to a mirror-like finish.
Cleat is bonded to the hull using polyurethane structural adhesive, making a permanent bond.
This adhesive, From Loctite (Item(# UK U-O5FL) is strong and waterproof with great heat resistance.
Testing
I have tested the bond strength of the assembly and found it to be better than 1000 pounds
Docking considerations should include using bungee type mooring line or spring lines to avoid high shock loads.
Price is $525.oo for a set of four
Adhesives $70.oo ---it's expensive
Adhesive applicator with 6 mixing nozzles $20.00
