Klein bikes hold a special place in cycling history. Known for their beautiful paintwork and innovative aluminum frames, they were hand-built in the U.S. and set the bar for lightweight performance in the late ‘90s and early 2000s. Their collectability has only grown over time, with many enthusiasts considering them among the finest and most visually striking aluminum alloy frames ever produced. This Adept Race is an excellent example, preserved in like-new condition and ready to ride or display.
This is an all-original Klein Adept Race from around 2000–2003, handbuilt in the U.S. with Klein’s Gradient Zirconium AL9000 alloy tubeset. The frame is pristine, with minimal to no signs of wear, and finished in the stunning Dupont Caribbean Reef paint that shifts from green to blue depending on the angle.
Suspension is handled by a Fox Float rear shock and Manitou Black Elite fork, both with a healthy, responsive feel. The bike runs a Shimano Deore LX/XT 3x9 group: Deore LX Hollowtech triple crankset, 11–32t cassette, LX crisp trigger shifters, and smooth, reliable V-brakes.
It’s rolling on 26” Bontrager Race Lite tubeless-ready wheels, which spin smooth and true, with tires showing plenty of tread. Bontrager seatpost and saddle complete the build.
Size L (20”), best fit for riders in the 5’10”–6’2” range.
I collect and restore vintage bikes, and I enjoy bringing gently used more recent models back to like-new condition. It’s always rewarding to see them back on the road, helping people stay active and reduce car use. I also offer repairs and tune-ups for the bikes I sell - please check out my Instagram - sfbikemarket.
My tiny “one-man-orchestra” operation is on Treasure Island, SF. It’s easy to get here - Bus 25 runs every 20 minutes from the Salesforce Terminal and in 10–15 minutes drops you off a block away from my place. There’s also a $5 ferry from the Embarcadero, a fun option if you want to explore the island or visit Mersea for food and views and don’t mind walking a little.
