This is a reproduction of a photograph of the wooden Ferry House as it was in 1886, located at the foot of Market Street (now known as The Embarcadero). It was constructed in wood in 1875 and replaced by the existing Ferry Building in 1898.
The building served as a "Golden Gateway to Alaska & The Orient," indicating its importance as a transportation hub. The scene showcases various modes of transportation from that era, including carriages, drays, and horse-drawn streetcars.
Construction of the currently existing Ferry Building was authorized by the electorate of California in November 1892 for construction of a Union Ferry Depot in San Francisco. On July 13, 1898, the building opened for public use.
This would be perfect for a San Francisco hallway or bathroom.
