I am selling my 1976 Ibanez Artist sometimes called the "Ash Artist". This guitar is in very nearly perfect condition. I am the second owner and have had it for over forty years. The clear gloss finish is perfect - no scratches front or back - not even any 'buckle rash'. The artistry in the woodwork includes what is called a 'German carve' around the outside of the top with abalone inlay around the perimeter. I tried to capture the beauty of the woodwork but in person it is much more spectacular than the pictures show. This represents the first year that Ibanez was determined to compete with the big boys - Gibson and Fender. Two piece bookmatched solid ash top and three piece ash back. Ebony fretboard with mother of pearl and abalone slash inlays. The guitar is completely original with the exception of: 1) Bill Lawrence solid bar humbucker pickups installed, 2) one tone control changed out with a push/pull coil splitter pot that controls both pickups, 3) the other tone pot removed and replaced with a 9 volt mini boost switch - variable from a 6dB to 16 dB boost. I have all of the original hardware, including the original 'flying finger' embossed pickups (with the butterfly wings) in case you would prefer to put it back to original. The fretboard shows no wear. The frets show almost no wear but could use a polish. The only real flaw in this guitar is that one of the plastic pickup surrounds is broken, as you can see in the pictures. Easy to replace. This comes with the original period correct hard case with the green velvet interior. The case does show some wear - hey, that's what the case is for. You can see the serial number in the photos so you can do your own research. As near as I can tell the serial number points to 1976 but might be 1977 and some aspects of this guitar fits model 2618 description but also model 2617 - it could be an 'in between' model.
