We are seeking a Temporary Distribution & Maintenance Operator to join our team. This temporary assignment is expected to last approximately 6 months.
Under the supervision of the Distribution & Maintenance Supervisor, the Temporary Distribution & Maintenance Operator performs a variety of maintenance and construction work including the replacement and installation of water meters; excavation of meter boxes and service lines; traffic control; and other maintenance and construction projects as needed.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Distribution & Maintenance Supervisor, the Temporary Distribution & Maintenance Operator performs a variety of maintenance and construction work including the replacement and installation of water meters; excavation of meter boxes and service lines; traffic control; and other maintenance and construction projects as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE OF AND PERFORMANCE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
· Safe use of various hand and power tools and equipment;
· Safe working practices;
· Traffic control methods;
· Basic plumbing and hydraulics; and
· Principles, methods, and tools employed in the installation of water meters.
ABILITY TO:
· Read and record meter readings;
· Use basic hand tools to perform minor repair and maintenance tasks;
· Apply appropriate safety precautions and procedures;
· Perform basic mathematical computations;
· Understand and carry out oral and written instructions; and
· Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with employees, supervisors, customers and the public.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
· Sufficient strength to perform manual labor such as digging, shoveling, sweeping;
· Sufficient eyesight to read standard text and data;
· Ability to speak and hear at normal conversational levels in person and over the telephone;
· Manual dexterity to use hand and power tools;
· Ability to reach, bend, stoop, or crouch to perform work;
· Ability to lift and carry up to forty (40) pounds of equipment and/or materials on a regular basis and one hundred (100) pounds on an occasional basis;
· Ability to operate mechanical equipment and trucks;
· Ability to travel to different sites and locations;
· Ability to routinely walk and stand on uneven and slippery surfaces; and
· Exposure to outdoors, including inclement weather and high noise levels.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES
EDUCATION: High school graduation or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
· Basic plumbing and site maintenance experience is desirable.
