Seeking Part-Time Skilled Assistant for an Awesome Young Woman with Developmental Delays

• Part-time assistant to support a 28-year-old woman with developmental delays at home, college, and in the community.

• Remedial education support, college coursework assistance, holistic daily living, follow-through on therapeutic routines.

• Compensation starts at $25/hour, based on experience and commitment.

• 20–30 hours per week.

• Remedial education and non-mainstream tutoring skills — or the mindset to learn what works to assist with college coursework for a blooming career path.

• Clear communicator and excellent team player.

• Female applicants due to feminine hygiene support needs.


Who the Companion Is:

• 28-year-old woman enthusiastic about healing, educational growth, emotional connections, and expanding life skills.

• She began life at one pound, through alternative approaches learned to walk at six, read, enter dance performances, circus arts, and complete high school; now attending Cabrillo College part-time. (She really is amazing)

.• She has a companion service dog that requires daily walks and care. And we have a house kitty.
• Passionate about mental health, healing trauma, independence, and self-acceptance without being “fixed” or “pathologized.”
• Loves healthy recipes, cooking, baking, art, dressing up, circus performances, great music, concerts (with headphones), exploring diverse cultures, and new learning opportunities.
• Creative and accepting free thinker with a sharp intellect who can feel stumped when over-stimulated or in new environments.
• She is cared for by a single mom and a circle of support. We are seeking to strengthen our circle for community connections and sustainability.

What’s Required:

• Assist with attending Cabrillo College classes and completing assignments (remedial support).
• Research and obtain additional resources to support ongoing learning.

• Reinforce healthy living, hygiene habits, and therapeutic routines.
• Ensure safety precautions for her eyes and movement.
• Due to an early brain injury, we coach you on safety precautions.

• Scaffolding for household tasks such as: teaching and assisting her in the preparation of healthy meals, organization, light housekeeping, personal tasks, goals, and her service dog.

• Enjoy adventures including walks, library visits, learning outdoors, concerts, and Santa Cruz activities.
• Support to enhance reading, writing, and math skills for greater independence.

Job Details and Requirements:

• Letter of interest, resume, and in-person interview.
• Life Scan and fingerprints (DDS requirements).
• W-2 required (not a cash-paid position).
• Driver’s license.
• 2–3 references.
