SERVER JOB DESCRIPTIONS
AKIRA Aptos are looking to add more experienced Servers to our diverse and multi-faceted Front-of-House (FOH) team. Nominated best sushi restaurant in Santa Cruz for many years, we strive to provide not just the freshest seafood and non-seafood products, but also the best environment to work at. Our diverse staff is what we build our brand and culture from. Our staff members come from many different backgrounds, with different experience and skillsets. Yet we all work together in a very positive and tight-knit environment. We strive to maintain a workforce where every individual is heard and respected for their thoughts and ideas in order to create an environment where every member is proud to be a part of. We are looking for servers that are enthusiastic and passionate, yet willing to learn our style of customer service and get adapted fast and well into our culture.
If YOU:
o Understand and can follow food safety/sanitation protocols
o Are experienced in the restaurant and/or hospitality industry for at least 1-2 years
o Are a fast learner that can memorize ingredients on our menu in a short time
o Are able to poor beer & wine properly
o Are passionate about sushi and Japanese-inspired dishes
o Can attend to customers’ needs and answer their questions about AKIRA food, fish, and drinks
o Are able to listen and learn new information as it comes
o Are open-minded to get along and work well with a diverse team. THIS IS A MUST!
o Are able to work in a distracting environment
o Are able to maintain a calmed and professional demeanor during busy and stressful hours/situations
o Able to walk and stand for a long period of time, and lift 30-50 pound objects
o Are flexible to work different shifts, including evening shifts, weekends and/or holidays, and are OK with working overtime if asked to

What our FOH members do on a daily basis:
o Arrive to shifts on time with proper attire and uniform (all Black clothes and non-slip shoes)
o Turn on hot sake machine and hot water machine
o Prepare miso soup station including green onion and tofu
o Prepare lemons for water
o Set up patio seats/indoor seats/sushi bar seats, including wiping down all tables and chairs, and setting up plates, napkins, chopsticks, and soy sauce bottles
o Prepare To-Go salads
o Polish spoons, forks, knifes, plates, and glassware
o Communicate with chefs and other servers when there are questions about food, tickets, or anything related to the job
o Communicate with kitchen chefs if any questions arise
o Attend to customers and take orders, serve food, pre-buss and buss tables, and reset tables when a busser is not on shift
o Do side tasks when it’s slow, including cleaning service areas and organizing anything related to serving (not limited to restocking toilet paper and paper towels, cleaning, organizing and restocking beverage shelves and fridges, and restocking To-Go station)
o Complete end-of-shift tasks before signing out
o Participate in teamwork to make sure the workflow is smooth

HOST JOB DESCRIPTIONS:
Greet guests
Seat guests & hand them the menus
Use seating charts & Let guests know the guesstimated wait time for tables
Communicate with guests about wait time & additional wait time if need to
Communicate with servers about their new table(s)
Communicate with sushi chef(s) & kitchen chef(s) about wait time for food
Space out table seating when too busy to avoid overloading
Take walk-in to-go orders
Take phone orders
Place the orders on the computers
Check tickets, label, and pack to-go food & beverage
Cash out to-go tickets
Wipe down to-go station
Restock to-go items including napkins, chopsticks, soy sauce packets, ginger & wasabi
Wipe down menus
Keep to-go station clean at all time
Make to-go salad
Make to-go ginger & wasabi
Requirements to perform a hosting job:
Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently
Ability to work at a very fast pace
Ability to handle stress appropriately and efficiently during busy hours/shifts
Ability to communicate efficiently with fellow workers
Ability to communicate politely & professionally with guests
Polite, professional & positive work attitude
Ability to multi task efficiently at a fast pace
Ability to stand and work on feet for a period of 3-5 hours
Dress professionally & neatly/ non-slip work shoes/ all black & no other companies’ logos or brands
Maintained personal hygiene is a must
Spanish speaking ability is a bonus but not a must
