Selling our van, affectionately known as Bilbo Vanaggins. It's a well maintained, mostly original '85, the last year of the round headlights and 1.9L wasserboxer. Runs and drives great.
I have loads of maintenance records from past owners, as well as my own, which you're welcome to pour over when you come to take a look. Recent or pertinent info:
- new pop top tent
- fuel system from tank to engine fully refurbished (tank dropped/scrubbed, all lines replaced, new fuel filter/pump/regulator)
- cooling system refresh (new radiator, all rubber hoses front to back, new water pump, fan switch)
- all vac lines replaced along with a variety of other vac system components
- new main battery, alternator and cabling, plugs and wires
- Brakes front and rear
- LED headlights
- Sweet 15" steel wheels/tires (handles soooo much better)... comes with a 5th but doesn't fit in spare tire carrier (can be mod'd to work)
- custom LCD gage screen showing engine temp, oil pressure, voltage, etc
- new heads (replaced by Old Volks Home in SC)
- replaced left rear wheel arch panel (in primer)
- CV joint
- All seatbelts replaced and shoulder belt added to rear seat
- new engine (rebuild), trans, catalytic @ ~130K miles (according to previous owner records)
Comes with:
- Various camping screens and curtains
- Car cover (Bus Depot)
- Menagerie of spare parts
- Bentley manual
- AC compressor (van is equipped with AC but needs to be gone through. I removed the compressor to make more room for general maintenance)
- rear cab heater core (bypassed to open up room under rear seat)
Of note:
- Dometic fridge doesn't work (typical).... perhaps best to do the cupboard conversion (GoWesty or very simple woodworking project). A long-list item that I didn't get to.
- It did have propane when I first got it, but I never refilled when it ran out. The range did work when it had propane. I always intended to convert it to run off a 1lb bottle, but never got round to it as we preferred to just cook outside on our camp stove.
- Water tank is leak free, but level sensors don't work. I replaced the faucet and pump a while back, so the sink is functional.
- There's a little rust at the corner of the windshield.
- The paint's nothing to write home about, but it's original and not too bad for a 40yo VW :)
