Window opens/closes and becomes watertight when secured by screw dogs.
Solid aluminum cover can be closed over window making porthole light tight and as structurally sound as the ships hull when secured with it’s screw lugs. . This was obtained locally from a friends estate who served in the USN and sourced it during his enlistment.
These first 8 are stock vintage photos, last 2 are actual porthole New, never mounted condition.
