Experience & About the Author
For more info, feel free to call or visit my site but I’ve written the short of it below.
I currently work with an editor out of my office in Huntington Beach California though with admittedly frequent trips up and down the state for meetings and seminars. The clients I’m working with now are involved in finance, faith, nonfiction, and fiction with several smaller projects and stories in development.
As far as my background in writing, I first had work published in middle school with several essays I wrote being used as examples in teaching books through Holt. After getting a taste of success, I moved to even more academic writing, submitting and publishing multiple pieces in a similar fashion. From there, I made the somewhat regrettable transition to essay writing for other students, mostly in college. By the time I graduated high school, I was working with clients on their Master’s specifically in Behavioral Psychology and Business Administration responsible for both the writing and research in both cases. I went to California State University of Los Angeles (CSULA) right out of high school, paying out of pocket for the school as well as rent (without loans or parental assistance, of course). Frustrated with the slow and poor quality of the education, I opted to leave and pursue writing as a career.
After leaving, I worked for a coworking space as a marketing assistant and met some fantastic business owners that gave me insight into how to operate a successful business, helping me with tons of snags and lessons along the way. After some time there, I left and rented my own space, working with clients on random articles and academic pieces for some time. I saved funds working in Newport and Irvine then fulfilled my dreams of travel, moving to Asia. There, I found several clients in Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Korea that provided me writing work in the form of short stories, web content, and translation work (mostly polishing up what they had). I fell in love with writing stories and focused my efforts on ghostwriting books and blogs, working with several people on memoirs and short story collections. After about a year and a half there, I moved back to the US and began to establish myself as a ghostwriter in America.
Initial Meeting > Fact-Finding > Outlining > Drafting > Editing
Generally we begin with some form of meeting whether over Skype, phone, or coffee. During this initial talk I try to get an idea for the scope of the project, research, budget, and timeframe as well as getting to know you personally. After understanding these aspects, we discuss the general direction we can head in and where I can help. At this time we will also sign any necessary NDA.
Next, we go through fact-finding and during this phase we do several interviews, go through any necessary documents, research, and develop the ideas necessary to then move onto outlining. During outlining, we discuss what came about from our research and the general shape of the book as well as the order in which all events will take place and overarching story elements, themes, and narrative aspects. From there, it’s everyone’s favorite part: drafting. Once a rough manuscript is finished we move into the optional step of editing, the work for which will be based on feedback from you, peers, possibly your publisher, and my editor.
Negotiable; built around 35-65/hr estimates on work; broken down as needed.
Ghostwriting is never cheap, as anyone who has done some shopping around understands. I do my best to work around budgets with flexible pay schedules (not all upfront) and service options. Internally, I calculate all costs as hourly (65 for writing/outlining/meetings, 35 for editing, research, & anything else) and then use my estimation of the time each chapter or project will take to give you an idea of the cost.
Payment can be broken down by the chapter, from a budget/retainer, or time-based (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly). Generally all projects are done with weekly or monthly pay though again, I’m flexible and sympathetic to everyone’s different situations.
How to Get Started?
