For sale is a Black and Decker brand portable, benchtop workstation and vise. This is from their WorkMate series, model number 79-020 (Type 1). You use the top surface and / or the built-in vise to place and / or grab unto medium to large-sized objects that would otherwise be challenging to work on. Such workstations with a built-in vise are sometimes called project centers.
The workstation is made of a heavy-duty plastic top surface and base, with a robust metal support frame in between. When collapsed for storage, the entire workstation measures about 18" wide, 18" deep, and 8" tall. It weighs about 20 pounds.
This workstation is intended to be place on top of a sturdy table or bench. For the most secure placement, you should screw this into the table or bench. There are screw holes at the bottom for such placement.
The workstation has a flat surface on top that allows you work on medium to large-sized objects. This top surface measures about 16" wide and 9.5" deep in its collapsed state and 16" wide and 16" deep in its extended state.
This top surface rests on a large pivoting frame that can be angled up to 45 degrees. The pivoting frame open like a draw bridge, using two unlocking levers. You can angle the top surface forward or back by up to 45 degrees. After securing your work object unto the workstation, this pivoting frame design allows you to move the object by simply angling the frame.
This top surface of the workstation can also be transformed into a simple vise, for grabbing on to your work objects. The top surface is actually divided into two equally sized portions with one of these being able to move laterally. By moving one of these sections open and then closing and tightening it, you can create a strong vise that securely holds unto your work object. The maximum space in between the vise grip arms is about 7.5". If you use the rubber accessory grips, this maximum space is 9.5". Your work object should be no larger than 9.5" if you want to use the vise.
The workstation has two rotating dials that allow you to independently move the left and right sides of the vise. In this way, you can place odd sized objects within the grips of the vise. For example, if you have a work object that is 6" wide at the bottom and 4" wide at the top, this vise can accommodate it. The left side rotating dial can be opened 6", while the right-side rotating dial would only be opened 4".
By tightening the vise grips, you can secure your object into the vise and then work on it. The vise is especially useful if you want to do any sanding, shaping, drilling, or other detail-oriented work on an object.
The workstation and vise are in excellent functional and cosmetic condition. There is nothing wrong with it. The plastic and steel portions are structurally robust. The vise movements and angling mechanisms are smooth. The vise grips are still strong and intact.
You'll get the workstation, the rubber accessory grips, and the original cardboard box.
