Sun X4500 "Thumper" 48-bay storage server. The machine that inspired an entire category of high-density spinning-disk top-loading chassis.
I bought these with the idea of building a service to provide extremely high-latency cloud storage -- buckets would rotate to higher-latency tiers until they were on offsite tape, with access latency of, like, 3 days. At the time, cloud storage cost about 500x what it did last time I checked, and I had a supply of old tapes, so the service vaguely penciled out. Now, of course, this is much less true. Really dodged a bullet by not actually starting the company.
Anyway, the servers are in good working condition. Includes a full load of drive trays per server, but no drives. Each server has dual dual-core Opterons and 16GB of DDR1 memory. Dual redundant power supplies. No rack rails or cable management kits, but the servers are otherwise complete.
Terrifyingly loud. Not recommended for inhabited spaces.
I have a total of three, and I am willing to discount for a buyer who's willing to take the lot. I absolutely cannot deliver; local pickup only.
