1972 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 w/ Trans Am Nose
VIN shows true U code Formula with T code 400 engine designation that was built in Norwood Ohio, trim tag shows W66 for Formula, one of 2,429 400’s produced for 1972.
I bought this car in Feb 1983 from a family friend not long after she cooked the engine
Sadly the engine and trans were chucked in 82 and a small block Chevy and TH350 were installed
Shortly after buying it the factory Trans Am front sheet metal was purchased from GM Sports in San Jose and the transformation began
The front sheet metal is only loosely fitted at this point
The original checking paint was stripped and minor body work and first prime was completed, that's where it ended
It's been stored indoors over 40 years now
Most all the parts are there including front and rear spoilers to complete the T/A look if wanted
The seats are from a newer low mile Trans Am purchased around the same timeframe `
The 160 MPH odometer reads 43,977
A great rust free solid example to Resto-Mod or restore as a Formula 400 again
Known missing large parts are front inner fenders, carpet, console, door panels and windshield, many smaller items may not be present
Start with a solid foundation to save time and money in the long run
