Jazz Jam – Sat 9/27/25 (San Jose)

This month's theme features tunes from the New Orleans second line like (Iko Iko, When the Saints) and classic boogie woogie like (Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On).
Jam Details:
- 3rd year running, usually held the last Saturday of the month
- Backyard deck under a huge oak tree in West San Jose
- 18–24 players, organized into 4 assigned combos (6–7 players each)
- The Jam start at 1:00 PM; jam ends around 5:00 PM
- Each combo plays 50 minutes with 10-minute changeovers
- Plenty of parking available
Skill Levels:
- Combo 1: players coming up the jazz curve (solid on instrument, building solo chops)
- Combos 2 & 3: intermediate players
- Combo 4: advanced players
Why musicians like this jam:
- Well organized, maximizing playing time
- Combos and leaders assigned 3 weeks in advance
- Tunes proposed and voted on ahead of time
- Set lists published at least 2 weeks before the jam, giving players time to practice
- Some combos rehearse before jam day for extra playing time
