This rare Sn. 00570 Pro-Amp has all of the age identifying features of an October 1960 5G5 model (Bass-Treble-Volume, no metal corners, Pulse Adj., diode rectifier and 5G5 nameplate sticker). The date codes on many parts are from 1959. There are, however, stamped date markings of 1963 on the chassis. I'm not representing this amp to be a specific year, I'm just pointing out indicators of possible age.
The original Tolex covering is well worn and a bit stained from knots in the wood cabinet but in decent usable condition. The original grille cloth has one small hole but is otherwise also in decent condition. The knobs, hardware and dog bone handle are all original.
When I bought this Amplifier it had been converted to highly modified 6G5 circuitry. See the last photo in this listing. The "Normal" channel sound was a bit shallow and easily distorted, the "Vibrato" channel was totally dead. The original 5G5 eyelet circuit board along with all components, all potentiometers, original tube sockets and all wiring were removed and saved in the interest of a possible purist restoration. All of these original parts are included in this listing.
This amp was rebuilt to Fender's highly desirable AB763 specification as found in the "Blackface" tube amps of the mid 1960's. A new AB763 eyelet board was populated with new capacitors and resistors. New ceramic tube sockets were installed and wired with authentic cloth covered wiring. The original transformers were used as they are the same as those used in Fender's AB763 model of the "Pro-Amp". The build also uses the original 5G5 model's diode rectifier board to keep the "Pro-Amp's" tight low end sound. Pull switches were used on the volume pots for "Bright" mode and the original "Pro-Amp's" "Presence Control" was adapted to the AB763 circuit. The relatively new GE 7025/12AX7 tubes, a new 12AT7 were used. The existing 6L6GC power tubes were biased to provide 40W output to the existing 8 ohm ElectroVoice SRO 15 inch loudspeaker. Like other Pro-Amps this amp can play loud with lots of headroom. The original 2 conductor power cord and plug (included) was replaced with a 3 conductor grounding cord and plug in the interest of safety.
An accurate professionally drawn "as built" schematic diagram is also included along with all my before and after photos on a USB Drive.
