Position Overview
We are seeking a full time LEAD CNC Setup Operator who can expertly set up and operate CNC milling centers. Supervise other operators and address issues. This position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, deep knowledge of CNC equipment, and the ability to troubleshoot and optimize machining processes for efficiency and quality.
Key Responsibilities
• Set up and operate CNC machines (vertical mills and 5 Axis mills) according to blueprints, drawings, and work instructions.
• Supervise operators to ensure optimal workflow and meet production targets.
• Select proper tooling and fixtures for each job based on material and part geometry.
• Download and verify CNC programs, ensuring proper offsets and tool lengths are loaded and accurate.
• Perform first-article inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and other precision instruments.
• Conduct in-process checks and adjust setups as needed to maintain tight tolerance and quality.
• Collaborate with programmers, machine operator, and production team to optimize part processes and reduce cycle times.
• Maintain documentation of setups, inspection results, and machine maintenance logs.
• Perform basic maintenance on machines, including coolant checks, lubrication, and chip management.
• Troubleshoot setup and machining issues independently and escalate complex problems when necessary.
• Follow all safety protocols and participate in lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives.
Qualifications
• 8+ years of experience setting up and operating CNC mills and 5 Axis mills in a production environment.
• Supervising experience
• Edit programs if necessary
• Ability to read and interpret GD&T, engineering drawings, and setup sheets.
• Hands-on experience with Fanuc CNC controls.
• Strong knowledge of G-code and M-code editing and verification.
• Proficiency in using measuring instruments and inspection tools to verify part conformity.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining high productivity and quality standards.
• Experience with tight tolerance machining (±0.001” or better) and various materials (aluminum, stainless, titanium, plastics).
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Read and write in English.
