Job Summary:
The SMT Programmer is responsible for creating, optimizing, and maintaining programs used in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment for PCB (Printed Circuit Board) assembly. This role ensures efficient machine operation, accurate component placement, and high-quality production output.
Key Responsibilities:
-Develop and maintain programs for SMT machines (pick-and-place, stencil printers, reflow ovens, AOI systems)
-Interpret PCB drawings, Gerber files, and BOMs (Bill of Materials)
-Set up and optimize machine programs for new product introductions (NPI)
-Troubleshoot programming and machine-related issues to minimize downtime
-Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve process efficiency
-Perform machine calibration and verification of component placement accuracy
-Ensure compliance with quality standards and IPC guidelines
-Maintain documentation for all programs and revisions
-Support continuous improvement initiatives in SMT processes
Qualifications:
-Associate’s degree or technical certification in electronics, manufacturing, or related field (preferred)
-Experience with SMT programming software and equipment (e.g., Fuji, Yamaha, Panasonic, Siemens)
-Ability to read and interpret schematics, PCB layouts, and assembly drawings
-Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
-Knowledge of IPC standards (e.g., IPC-A-610)
-Proficiency in basic computer applications and manufacturing software
Preferred Skills:
-Experience with AOI/X-ray inspection programming
-Familiarity with CAD/CAM software
-Understanding of lean manufacturing principles
-Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Work Environment:
-Manufacturing/production floor setting
-May require standing for extended periods
-Use of ESD protection equipment as required
