compensation: $20.04 gross from IHSS to start, $3 more per hour (tip) after training period.
employment type: part-time
experience level: no experience required
job title: Aide
$23.00 (after trial period) Non-smoking aide for disabled San Jose lesbian elder (Part-time, IHSS)

I am a published writer/photographer with a consistent meditation practice and abiding passion for justice. I have physical, sensory and cognitive limitations that affect all aspects of my life. I live with my disabled partner and our extremely cute cat. My needs vary from day to day and within each day. I seek someone who can flexibly respond to whatever is going on any given work shift. All genders welcome.

Tasks:
Housework (I supply the products)
Home and office organizing (hopefully you're quite organized yourself and can bring enthusiasm and patience)
Shopping
Vegetarian cooking (I can supply recipes but would prefer your input)
Errands
Personal care (no bowel or bladder programs)
Rides to appointments
Fix-it projects
Computer/smartphone/tablet. Best practices and tricks. Patiently teach and remind me.

If you can do some but not all of these and meet the requirements below, please do apply.

Requirements:
-Fluent English speaker
-Non-smoker
-Fragrance free. (Nothing scented on your skin, hair or laundry products. Please read the labels on your products. If it doesn’t say “fragrance-free” it will have fragrances, almost always. No dryer sheets.)
-Be or become an IHSS (In-Home Support Services) provider. This means passing a criminal background check and being able to work legally in the US.
-Have current COVID and flu vaccinations and boosters. If you’re not vaxxed and boosted tell me why and I will consider on a case-by-case basis. I prefer you work masked.
-Valid driver’s license and a registered, insured vehicle that nobody smokes in. I reimburse for mileage at the federal level for any driving you do on my behalf. (Not your commute.)
-16 or older
-Able to do this job without exacerbating any health challenges of your own.
-2SLGBTQIA-friendly

Benefits: Group MediCal insurance including dental and vision insurance, free VTA pass, credit union, trainings and peer-support. More benefits I'll tell you about as we exchange emails or during the interview.

Hours are flexible and rarely include early morning or late night. I’m looking to fill 10-20 hrs a week. I prefer to schedule week by week but if you need a set schedule I can accommodate that. You will be joining a team of providers.

Before replying make sure you meet the requirements. You do not need previous experience as a care provider.

Be sure to answer the following:

1. What times are you available? Is your schedule likely to change?

2. Which of the tasks listed are areas where you shine?

3. Are there any tasks that present a problem?

4. What experience do you have relevant to this job?

5. Do you have any problem being fragrance-free while working for me?

6. Why are you applying for this job in particular?

7. What else do you want me to know about you?

I appreciate responses that give me a sense of who you are and how you envision this position fitting into your life. If you send me your resume and no cover email we are not in synch and I won't be replying. Everyone else, I look forward to your emails!

Peace,
Barbara
