For sale is a large pedestal-base end table made of rosewood. It was purchased by my parents in the mid-1960s. It's from the Scandinavian mid-century-modern (MCM) genre of furniture, first made popular in the 1950s and 1960s.
This furniture piece was manufactured by Vejle Stole Mobelfabrik of Denmark. I believe the renowned furniture designer, Henning Kjaernulf, was working at Vejle Stole at the time this item was produced.
This is intended to be an end table for your living room. But you can also use it in other settings and for other functions. It's a large end table for a large room.
The overall size of the table is 31.5" wide, 23.5" deep, and 21" tall. The entire table weighs about 40 pounds! This is one solid end table.
As it's a pedestal-base style table, it's constructed of two components. The first is the table base that measures about 20" wide, 13.5" deep, and 19" tall. The base is composed of four pieces of wood assembled together to form a sturdy rectangular box. The base weighs about 20 pounds. Pictures 13 to 21 are of the base alone.
The second component is the large table-top, that measures 31.5" wide, 23.5" deep, and 2" tall. The table-top weighs about 20 pounds. Pictures 22 to 24 are of the top alone.
The tabletop connects to the table base using metal posts and screws. The footprint of the tabletop is much larger than that of the table base, so that from above, it looks like the tabletop floats. Pictures 1 to 12 are of the fully assembled table.
The entire table (including the base and top) is constructed of genuine rosewood veneer over MDF. The wood grain is beautiful. See Pictures 18, 19, 20, 21, and 24 which shows details of the wood grain.
I am downsizing and this is no longer being used. The unit is in excellent condition. Structurally, it's still in incredibly robust condition, with no wood warping or fatigue.
Cosmetically, everything is also in excellent condition, especially considering it's several decades old. There are some very small scratches on some wood surfaces from normal wear. In addition, there are a few more noticeable scratches on the top surface, each about 1" long. These cosmetic issues don't significantly detract from the beauty of the rosewood.
Pickup from my house near the San Jose Airport. You can probably fit this into a standard sized passenger car.
Or I can provide free delivery to your front ground-floor entryway if you live within 20 miles of my house in San Jose (zip code 95126). Or I could charge a small fee if you live further away. Please feel free to inquire.
I prefer that you reach out via text message. Sending an initial email message is OK. But arranging pickup solely using email is not a feasible option for me. Eventually, you'll have to text me to arrange a specific pickup or delivery time. Thanks.
Please note that I have a similar Vejle Stole brand rosewood coffee table posted separately on Craigslist for $600 (also firm).
