For sale is a coffee table, which is intended to be used in your living room. But you can also use it in other settings and for other functions.
It's a 5-feet long coffee table for a large living room. Given its large size and heavy weight of 105 pounds, this is NOT the type of coffee table that you would want to move often. This is intended to be stationary coffee table that remains in place until you really need to move it. As a reminder, this table weight about 105 pounds!
The table was manufactured by the Lane Furniture Company of Alta Vista, Virginia. First established in 1912, the Lane Company became one of the most prestigious furniture manufacturers in the U.S., making a lot of very high-end items. Unfortunately, the company went bankrupt just a couple of years ago.
This particular table is from Lane Company Style Number 956-09. It was manufactured on March 17, 1962. The Serial Number 267130 indicates this particular date. These details are etched at the bottom of the sliding drawer.
This table is from the French Provincial genre of furniture. It has classic French Provincial style elements, including cabriole style legs with ornate curved elements.
This coffee table is constructed of three separate pieces, including 1) the very thick and heavy top marble slab or plate, 2) the lightweight, but sturdy wooded support base that fits underneath, and 3) the sliding drawer that fits within the support base.
The top marble plate measures 60" long, 22" deep, and 0.75" tall and it weighs about 90 pounds! It's a single slab of marble with beige, pink, and yellow hues. Please see Pictures 9 to 14 for closeups of the marble surface.
The wooden support base measures 60" long, 22" deep, and 14.75" tall. The sliding drawer that fits inside the base measures about 25" wide, 14" deep, and 2" tall. With the drawer in place, the wooden support base weighs about 15 pounds. These two pieces are constructed mainly of solid oak wood, painting in a French Provincial style beige and gold color. The legs are classic cabriole style with ornate curved elements. Please see Pictures 15 to 24 for closeups of the wooden base and drawer.
When the marble slab is placed on top of the support base, the entire table measures 60" long, 22" deep, and 15.5" tall. The open space below the wooden support base is about 11.5" in height. Once again, the entire thing weighs about 105 pounds. Please see Pictures 1 to 8 for what it looks like in the fully assembled form.
The heavy marble slab is held in place on top of the wooden support base using simple gravity. It takes a lot of force to move the heavy marble plate off of the base. If you prefer something more robust to prevent movement during an earthquake, you can use some simple cement or epoxy to glue the two pieces together. Or you could use some simple rubber bumpers to prevent the marble slab from shifting. I'll leave it to you to figure out your best solution. As a reminder, the marble slab weighs about 90 pounds, so moving it off of the wooden base takes a lot of effort.
The unit is in excellent structural, functional, and cosmetic condition. Structurally, it's still in robust condition, with no wood warping or fatigue. The marble plate is intact with no significant scratches or other concerns. The sliding drawer works perfectly. There is nothing wrong with it.
You can pick up from my house near the San Jose Airport. This will probably fit this into a standard sized passenger car. But an SUV or truck will likely work better for transport. I can help you load the marble slab into your vehicle. But you'll have to unload it yourself, once you are home.
Or I can deliver this to you for FREE if you are located within 20 miles of my house in San Jose (zip code 95126). Or if you live further away, I could deliver for a small fee. I have an SUV. But you'll have to assist me in pulling the marble slab out of my car and carrying it into your place. At 90 pounds, it's a challenge for me to lift it myself. And you'll have to arrange outside help if you want to move this up any significant staircases.
