Richmond P. "Woody" Woodson was born on October 28, 1954 in Greensboro, North Carolina, and now resides in Pacific Grove, California on the Monterey Peninsula. He earned his BA degree from the University of California at Chico in 1987. Woodson also studied under prominent Northern California plein air painters, Brian Blood, Laurie Kersey, and Rick Harper.
He is currently a member of the Carmel artist group "The Informalists", associated with Gallerie Plein Aire, located on Dolores Street in Carmel, California. Woodson was recently inducted into prestigious Carmel Art Association (CAA) as an Artist Member.
Woodson is currently serving on the CAA Board of Directors (2008).
"Woody" has exhibited widely during his career. His works have been presented at the Mendocino Art Center, the Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art, the Pacific Grove Art Center, Galerie Plein Aire, the Carmel Art Association, and the Carmel Art Festival.
Known for his spectacular small landscapes and seascapes, he is currently documenting the famous Dunes of Asilomar and Adobes of the Monterey Peninsula.
