I am looking to hire an experienced horticultural consultant, permaculture designer, or arborist to help me design and map out a home fruit orchard on my property in Gilroy.
Please note: I am paying for your expertise, local knowledge, and spatial planning.
The Project:
I want to establish a highly productive, healthy, tropical fruit orchard tailored exactly to the Gilroy microclimate (zone 9b).
I need an expert who understands our local soil, chill hours, and sun angles to tell me exactly what to plant and where to plant it.
What I Need From You:
• Site Assessment: Evaluate my proposed orchard area for sun exposure, wind, cold air drainage, and soil/drainage conditions.
• Cultivar & Rootstock Selection: Recommend specific varieties of stone fruit, pome fruit, and citrus that will thrive in my exact location.
• Spatial Mapping: Create a site plan/map showing exactly where each tree should be planted for optimal spacing, root health, cross-pollination, and ease of harvest.
• Irrigation Strategy: Provide high-level guidance on how the irrigation zones should be laid out for these specific trees.
The Ideal Candidate:
• Has deep, hyper-local knowledge of South Santa Clara County growing conditions.
• Is an ISA Certified Arborist, Certified Permaculture Designer, or has extensive professional experience in pomology/orchard management.
• Understands concepts like high-density planting, succession ripening, and companion planting.
• Can deliver a clear, actionable site map and tree list.
To Apply, Please Reply With:
1. A brief summary of your experience designing orchards or edible landscapes in the South Bay/Central Coast.
2. Your consulting rates (please specify if you charge an hourly rate, a flat initial site-visit fee, or a project-based design fee).
3. Any examples of past site plans, plant lists, or orchards you have successfully designed.
I have my property dimensions, soil notes, and a general list of fruits I enjoy ready to go. Looking forward to working with you to bring this orchard to life!
