Halcro has long been lauded for its amplification design; having created what was once considered the best amplifier available in the DM88. The folks at Halcro created a series of amplifiers designed to deliver the transparent and dynamic sound the company is known for but in a more efficient and cost effective package. The MC20 is the 2-channel version of these amplifiers and it last retailed for $6000.
The amplifier is a high end product that provides the typical upper end features such as balanced and single ended (RCA) inputs, high quality binding posts that accept spades, bananas or bare wire and a very elegant front fascia that exudes quality. Sound wise the amplifier is very neutral and transparent, getting out of the way of the music. It delivers deep tight bass, thunderous dynamics, excellent imaging and soundstaging and never sounds bright. The music is delivered with excellent body and tone.
I have moved on to powered speakers and no longer need an amplifier. This amp was last used with Vandersteen 5A Carbon speakers and the sonic picture produced was spectacular. Because of their very high power this amplifier will drive any speaker. It can also be handled by one person as it weighs less than 50 pounds. Specs below:
