I’m a huge fan of the Marantz Esotec series of components from the early 1980s. These are hidden gems, under appreciated, and rare in North America but popular in Japan and Europe, in which Marantz spared no expense in trying to regain the glory of the 1960s. From the vintage knob: “The Pm-6a probably is the classiest of all Esotecs.” In other words, this one's a sleeper.

The Pm-6a is in stellar condition and is beautiful sounding. Far superior to the Accuphase E202 integrated which is a classic in its own right and which I also owned. Considered better sounding than bigger brother PM-8 which if you can find it sells for between 2k - 3k. Compare this against Luxman 590AXII at 9k for very similar performance. Today, the Pm-6a would retail for 6k or more.

With these older units, condition is everything. It is 30 W Class A (and 120 W Class A/B), and considered the best sounding of the solid state integrated amps from that era. The styling harkens back to the heritage of the Marantz 7. The Esotec series had the rare champagne faceplates, front panel doors (ala Marantz model 9), gold-plated connectors, high quality power cords, upgraded binding posts, beautifully-finished brown textured chassis, tremendous internal build quality, and a hand-crafted wood cabinet (walnut or mahogany) as an option.

I had the Pm-6a completely checked out by my tech . The unit is in excellent condition cosmetically and electrically.
