Position: Optical Systems Engineer I
We are seeking a talented and hands-on Optical Systems Engineer to join our team and contribute to the design, development, and optimization of advanced optical systems used in high-performance metrology systems.
Responsibilities:
• Participate in R&D project efforts including prototyping, testing, and validation of optical subsystems
• Create processes for optical alignment, integration, and troubleshooting of complex opto-mechanical assemblies
• Develop next-generation metrology equipment according to customer specifications
• Design, analyze, and optimize optical systems using geometrical optics and ray-tracing techniques
• Specify, select, and evaluate optical components (mirrors, lenses, detectors, light sources, etc.)
• Develop and maintain optical models and simulations
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers throughout product development
• Document designs, procedures, and test results clearly and thoroughly
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Practical experience with optical alignment techniques and laboratory instrumentation
• Strong background in geometrical optics and free space optical systems
• Experience with optical/opto-mechanical component selection.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Hands-on experience with ray-tracing software (e.g., Zemax, FRED, or equivalent)
• Practical or professional experience using CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
• Experience designing complex optical systems
• Experience with opto-mechanical design and tolerancing
• Familiarity with practical mechanical design/manufacturing techniques (fixturing, kinematic mounting, tolerance stack up, hardware selection, DFM)
• Hands-on experience with common spectroscopy techniques, detectors, and thermal and laser-based light sources
