Start your classic car collection as a hedge against inflation. This Pininfarina designed two-seat roadster debuted by Alfa Romeo in 1966. Early examples sell for 10's of thousands of dollars (check any motor guide). This 1990 example is in very good mechanical condition and is all original.
With low mileage for its vintage, this car remains Alfa's most-recognized product, thanks to the film, The Graduate. As Italian semi-exotics go, the Spider is an attainable dream car, and 1990 is considered one of the best years to get. The paint, unfortunately, is faded, thus the low price. Recent tires and suspension make it a fun drive on curvy roads.
SHE'S BEAUTIFUL! The Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce has glove-soft leather upholstery, power windows, and mirror (new ones installed recently), aluminum wheels, and a cloth top. It is attention-getting. I always get waves and stopped in the gas station. Unique. This car has style, from the classic curvy Pininfarina body to the fit-like-gloves seats. Closing the convertible top is easy; you only need to reach back to pull the canvas top over the head. This car also has a reasonably sized trunk, the all-alloy engine featuring steel cylinder liners for durability. Its double-overhead-cam design and hemispherical heads spoke to Alfa's racing past. Better than MGB, Triumph (or even Miata), the Spider came with a five-speed, and four-wheel disc brakes, fuel injection, and a large 1,962 cc four-cylinder engine.
CLASSIC FUN! Alfa Romeo is one of the most passionate car manufacturers and holds a high level of respect. Each of their cars is a work of art. Very quick, can take any corner at speed. Most enjoyable ride in a classic sports car you can have, IMHO.
PLUSES: No rust, reg paid, California car, all glass original, smogged and ready to go, tires and suspension are fairly new, interior upholstery is original leather beautiful and complete (needs carpet, bu replacement included, just install), complete mechanical checkout done (FJ Alfa in Campbell), new AAA battery with guarantee, always had synthetic motor oil, new mirrors, and a nice Alpine stereo. (
Includes replacement original factory carpet kit and new Blaupunkt speakers in the box both ready to be installed).
MINUSES: Original paint has flaws, the carpet has a hole (but floorboards are solid), small crack in the dashboard (not detectable), A/C was disconnected by the previous owner to increase horsepower (all components there) and the original rear window is fogging up.
