Offered for sale is a ONE OF A KIND item of extreme rarity. I GUARANTEE you that you will NEVER find another one of these - or even another item that is similar. No matter how long you look. An original WW2 German Nazi Wartime-made Wedding Armoire / Wardrobe complete with two original skeleton keys. I can also offer some details on the possible original wartime owner that I have obtained since I got this armoire.

This stunning armoire is entirely handmade and features some of the most amazingly intricate hand-painting I've ever seen on any wartime period piece. The armoire is in solid and excellent condition (with one chipped area to the wood on the bottom right side - see photos). Although I'm not 100% sure, I believe the armoire is constructed from some sort of German pine. The style of the build is early mid-century, with art deco horizontal and vertical accents.

On the top of the wardrobe is a painted quote in Fraktur lettering, taken from the end of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's ballad, 'Der Schatzgräber'. It reads, "Tages Arbeit, Abends Gäste, Saure Wochen, Frohe Feste" which translates to, "Daily labor, evening guests, weeks of toil, and happy fests". This upper section has a rich hand-painted faux burl wood appearance. In fact, ALL the wood grain on this armoire is hand painted! The door panels, as you can see, are ornately hand-painted in a 3-dimensional appearance to resemble carved wood and are in a sort of German Neo-Classical design with cherubic, floral, fruit, and dragonhead motif details. The door panels are painted with monograms of the groom ('GB' on left door) and the bride ('MB' on right door). Just below the groom's monogram on the left door is the date '1939' in a lettering similar to the date on actual Iron Cross awards / decorations. This particular detail would indicate that the groom was a member of the Wehrmacht (German armed forces) and had been awarded an Iron Cross - or perhaps a Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. Below the date monogram and towards the bottom of the same door is a stylized Nazi German national eagle with swastika. On the right door, below the bride's monogram, is a stylized 'FO' symbol that I believe to be related to the Frauenschaft Organization (a Nazi women's organization). Below this emblem is a heraldic representation of a seamstress's or tailor's tools of trade; a pair of scissors, two needles, and two bobbins of thread. Inside, is a complete set of 6 hooks on the top back panel, and a simple rolled steel hanging rod with simple stamped steel fixtures on either side to hold it up. Of special note is that the entire armoire is made in two vertical sections and held together with an applied wood-block dovetail joinery system on the top and bottom that holds both sections tightly together and in perfect alignment. This is a common feature that is typical of antique European armoires and wardrobes. This was done so the units could be easily transported and moved into houses with smaller passageways, or had to be moved upstairs. This wardrobe comes complete with its original BRONZE skeleton keys (one for the door, and one for the drawer) and the locks are tight and fully functional. Overall size of the armoire / wardrobe is approximately 76" High, 43" Wide, and 21.5" in Depth.

Because of the quality of this armoire, and the expense of having something like this made during wartime in the 1940s, I can only assume the original owner was an officer and someone of financial means. I REALLY don't want to sell it, but unfortunately, it's taking up space. Don't miss your chance to pick up this incredibly rare piece of WWII German homefront history! Again, I GUARANTEE you'll NEVER find another one like it. EVER. NOBODY ELSE will have anything even remotely close to it in their collection! And, if you collect uniforms and don't have enough mannequins, what would be a more perfect way to display them?
