ITEM LOCATED IN SAN JOSE. This is a rare wooden frame with detailed and fine relief/3D carvings depicting marine/nautical/naval motifs including masts, sails, rigging, flag, capstans, cannon, oars, sailors handling anchor and sextant, etc. The bottom center crest shows a ship's bow and the upper center crest has the figure of the god of the sea (Neptune in Roman religion, Poseidon in Greek religion) flanked by a dolphin and a hippocamp on either side. Starfish, shells, flowers and leaf designs can also be seen. The frame is 58" wide, 43" high, up to 3" deep and weigh about 18 lb. The cutout on the back is about 47"x29.5" in size . So, mirror or painting of that size can fit in it. It is a hard to find item. I have found only a few examples of this type of frame in the whole internet, all from past auctions. One went for £9,300 in a UK auction. Asking $2500 (or make offer).
